Yesterday marked a profound milestone in our journey—Pittsburgh City Council unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring October 7, 2025, as “Alina’s Light Day” in the City of Pittsburgh. This historic recognition, sponsored by Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith and supported by all council members, honors Alina’s legacy while affirming our city’s commitment to ending domestic violence.

This moment is more than recognition—it is a promise. A promise that Alina’s story will keep opening doors, changing hearts, and protecting those who need it most.
What moves us most is how the proclamation highlights our work—not just in raising awareness about domestic violence, but in our advocacy for life-saving legislation like Alina’s Law (Senate Bill 123 and House Bill 104), which aims to enhance protections for survivors through GPS monitoring and stronger legal safeguards.
The resolution declares:
“The Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the work of Alina’s Light in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and applauds the unwavering dedication of her family and supporters in transforming personal tragedy into a powerful movement for change.”
This proclamation is more than recognition—it’s a promise that Alina’s story will continue opening doors, changing hearts, and protecting those who need it most. It affirms that love is stronger than fear, that safety is not a privilege, and that silence will not have the last word.
To Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith and all council members who stood with us: thank you for seeing Alina, honoring her memory, and joining us in this vital mission. Together, we continue turning heartbreak into action, one life, one law, one day at a time.
