2020 Winter Jamfest to End Domestic Violence
We had the honor of bringing Alina’s story to her alma mater, Montour High School, at the 2020 Winter Jamfest to End Domestic Violence. We held 5 presentations for a total of 10 teams from different states. Educating young men and women about the dangers of dating violence is one of many causes we are passionate about. A special thank you to Phil Peckich, TD Sports, and Montour dance boosters for providing us the opportunity to share our mission, raise awareness of domestic violence, and spread Alina’s light. We are hopeful that Alina’s story will continue to make an impact and ultimately save lives.
Christmas Celebration at the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh
Alina’s Light decked the halls at the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh on December 23, 2019. We decorated cookies, ornaments, and even had a special appearance from one of our board members – Santa Claus himself! Santa brought gifts for every child and mother to brighten their holiday. We are so grateful to be involved with such a wonderful organization and be able to serve such amazing women and children. Happy holidays to all!
Halloween Party at the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh
We picked some pumpkins, threw on our ears, and had the honor of spending “spooky” time with Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh residents at our Halloween party. It was a night filled with pumpkins, crafts, and (maybe too much) candy! We had a wonderful time painting pumpkins and decorating treat bags with the residents. It isn’t Halloween without some trick-or-treating, so we were all sure to put those treat bags to use at the end of the night. Thank you so much for having us!
Esmerk Stars AAA Hockey Club hit the ice in Alina’s memory
They wore purple uniforms to honor domestic violence victims that also featured our organization’s name, “Alina’s Light”. We are so touched that the team was willing to take time out of their busy schedules to honor Alina and join us in spreading light and awareness. We are so grateful for Dave Krosik, team manager, Yuri Krivokhija, 16U AAA head coach, and Oleg Andrianov, manager of Friendship Bridge Association. Without you, this wonderful event would not have been possible. We would also like to thank Rachel Yurk for her stunning performance, yet another tribute to Alina, and her father, Ghena Yurk, our jersey sponsor and dear friend of the Sheykhets. A special thank you goes out to Alex Litz, who worked so hard to beautifully capture this event.
Thank you so much to all of our ongoing supporters – we are incessantly grateful!
Italy – Art Against Violence
Alina’s Light has arrived in Italy! We had the honor of visiting Zenobio Palace in Venice to see Sasha Phillips ‘s painting: Alina’s Light. Her art was chosen to be displayed in the Art Against Violence Exhibit in Italy. Alina’s Light is now displayed among a collection of powerful artwork with equally powerful stories. We are touched that we were welcomed to such a special place to share Alina’s story and found that others at the event were just as deeply impacted by it. We are endlessly appreciative of Sasha and VITARU organization for honoring Alina’s memory in such a beautiful way. Our board members would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Sasha for allowing Alina to have a voice through her artwork. This painting is a powerful outlet for Alina and other domestic violence victims to raise their voice and break the silence.
Cycling event – Break the Cycle
Alina’s Light was pedaling hard to break the cycle of Domestic Violence! Our most sincere thank you goes out to Kristen Morgan and her family for organizing this amazing event in honor of her mother and others lost too soon. We were ecstatic to be able to participate and raise funds that will go towards Christmas gifts for the women’s shelter. We greatly appreciate Cyclebar instructors for pushing us through such a powerful and heartfelt workout. Thank you to everyone who made today possible!
Our organization was also honored to present a $250 donation to the Center for Victims. Supporting victims of domestic violence is one of the many causes that we are passionate about. We are so grateful to be able to contribute to yet another wonderful cause in Alina’s memory.
