This past Sunday for Valentine’s Day we turned to the healing power of art to offer comfort to those of us who might be feeling a bit lost or alone. Our Healing HeArts Workshop at the Clay Café was nothing short of amazing. With open hearts and hands ready to create, a group of incredible women came together to support one another and find a little bit of joy in a day that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Elaine, the owner of Clay Café, deserves a huge thank you for giving us the perfect space to get messy with paint. And then there’s Sasha Phillips, our wonderful instructor. Sasha might spend her days working as a lawyer, but she brought her true passion for art to our workshop. She shared beautiful words that helped us all pause, meditate, and find our “color” – that special hue that represents our feelings and memories. Sasha’s been studying psychology at Harvard, blending those learnings with mindfulness and meditation techniques, and you could really feel the thoughtfulness she brought to our group.

The idea behind this workshop was simple: to create a space for anyone who’s missing a loved one, whether they’re far away or have passed on. Valentine’s Day can be tough, but getting together to make something beautiful can be a powerful reminder that we’re not alone. Sasha’s approach – mixing her knowledge of Western psychology with the calmness of Eastern philosophies – turned art into a tool for healing, and it was incredible to see the transformation in all of us throughout the day.

As we all held up our finished pieces for a group photo, the room was filled with smiles and a sense of accomplishment. The art we created was beautiful, but even more beautiful was the feeling of community and the shared understanding that we’re all in this together. It was an emotional day, but also one filled with love and hope. We can’t wait to do it all over again!
